Background
Katrina grew up on Ynys Môn, studied languages, lived in Europe and travelled widely before returning to settle and raise a family in north Wales.
A working-class upbringing and its inherent struggles gave Katrina a grounding in social issues, feminism, and entrenched conflicts facing the Welsh community and language at that time, and minority languages today. This rooted a deep and recurring hiraeth to return to Cymru and explore these themes carried throughout a lifetime.
Katrina is grateful to hold an MA in Creative Writing (with distinction), from Bangor University, a Maîtrise L.E.A., from Université du Maine, France, and a BA (Hons) in German and Italian from Leicester University.
Events
Performance plays an important part in the writing process and creative practice.
Katrina runs an open mic night at Bangor’s Blue Sky Café, and leads poetry and fiction workshops that encourage new writers to develop and share their work in safe supportive environments.
‘I love exploring connections languages make across cultural and social barriers, crossing borders, and revealing personal histories unique and common to us all.’
